"We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you." (Gal. 2v5)
The word triumphant is beautiful. The Hebrew translation alats, can be roughly defined as shouting for joy.
It means to be so consumed with joy, that anything outside of that joy is meaningless!
Paul had wrote this letter to a hurting church. This is the story of many of us today. In our culture there are many voices telling us what to believe, what to put our hope in. Voices that sound convincing to the point that we start to believe false truths!
What Paul is essentially saying is we have this ability to be triumphant gospel ambassadors.
Paul had just come back from Judea, and he accounts for it telling us,
"I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. They only heard the report: 'the man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy. And they praised God because of me." (Gal. 1v22-24)
God has this amazing moment where he uses Paul to be triumphant in a world saying otherwise.
The world was reminding both Paul and the people of Judea of Paul's gruesome past.
And they praised him because of that! Because of the radical and triumphant Spirit, Paul was different, and the people were only in absolute awe. The people were so full of Joy that nothing else mattered.
I wonder if everyday was like this for me. I wonder if my life would be different if I trusted in the absolute triumph of our King.
It takes listening to that amazingly triumphant voice.
It takes being bold because we reflect a bold King,
It means laying down our fears at the feet of a triumphant King.
We read later in Paul's letter, one of his final affirmations and encouragements to the church.
"For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery." (Gal. 5v1)
We are no longer subject to slavery. We are triumphant. This means no other voice or influence will be able to stop the Spirit once it starts moving!
How beautiful!
go out and do.
grace and peace,
